Reviving the gamer in me
PaG+BaBaLiK+SaPaG+LaLaRoEver since I was a kid, it has been ingrained to my psyche to consider video games an integral part of my upbringing. To be honest, I've long forgotten my first ever exposure to it; not sure whether it's playing Tekken on PSP, watching Minecraft playthroughs on Youtube, or watching my father play games on the TV. Despite that, I have a handful of memories of playing them growing up but they slowly but surely became more of a dormant interest.
Sure, I never really stopped playing them, I was not immune to the MOBA and Gacha craze of our times. However, the experience of playing games as I grew up became more shallow as times went by. I thought it was merely because I was not a child that I once was, and other hobbies such as drawing, reading, and writing became my bread and butter. Now a more mature me(barely even an adult lol) suddenly found a Playstation 3 collecting dust in the rarely touched cabinet. Everything else was a blur, I just remembered buying a new HDMI and controller for it with a smile on my face.
I remember a comment on a video reviewing retro handheld that says "The best console is the one you have". I loved the quote but I think I geniunely forgot that there's a Playstation lying around, or perhaps I jut thought that it was broken already; in fact, one of my new years resolution was saving for a secondhand Wii. Ah, the moment I saw that PS3 startup was ecstatic, I felt like the me that last played the console on 2026 just appeared again just to see that one moment.

Starting Again
Bringing back a console to the living room, to me, was kind of a new beginning but also a way to relive a part of my childhood that felt incomplete. Because of that, I treated the experience as if I never played a video game before hence choosing the title to lead the rebirth was crucial.
There are many that I considered such as buying my old games again like Black Ops 1 or DMC4, but that felt counterproductive for a gaming reset if I choose to play the same games. I then looked at my interests, an anime game? A visual novel? Fantasy... Yes that's it! As someone fond of magical worlds, it was a no brainer to narrow the choices to that. After some elimination, it ended with me choosing...
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim

Now, this is the PS3 we are talking about so there were some lagging here and there but the game is totally playable. Another factor of enjoyment is that I just experienced it without any online disturbance, which I found myself to do more often with experiencing games now. Perhaps this was how people played it back in November of 2011. In a sense, the game did not just took me to the world of Tamriel but also to a world where this was my childhood. That made me guilty that I neglected such a great console for years.
As someone who played nothing but a lot of Hoyo games and MOBAs before returning to my roots, Skyrim gave me such a refresh on what playing games should be. It also gave me appreciation towards what good games are like just as much as my appreciation for books and music. There is fondness that I always develop towards media that changes how I think, no matter the way they are told, and games such as this one shall hold a place in my heart.
What's Next For Me?
There has been many updates to my gaming life now like modding my console, truly getting into JRPGs, logging my played games on my website. With school getting busier than ever, the hobby becomes a way of letting off steam from all the stress that accumulates on my mind. I hope that the inevitable time that I have to pay taxes would not change this integral part of myself; a gamer.
